Hi-Five Goes to the Webinar on“Interpreting for Victims of Crime”

The “Interpreting for Victims of Crime” webinar that Vital Language Solutions LLC hosted on October 4th 2023 turned out to be a great success! We had nearly 25 guests join us for this wonderful and highly interactive presentation. And even though the main focus of the presentation was on interpreting, it also sparked interest of rather a large crowd of translators from different language combinations.

While we are very thankful to our community of translators and interpreters who managed to find time in their schedule to attend our event, our sincere and special thanks go to our presenter, Dr. Rita Pavone, PhD, who made this presentation very interactive, engaging and most important, useful to our linguists who attended it! During this 60-minute presentation attendees very actively engaged in discussion with the presenter on identifying concepts such as victimization, revictimization, victim precipitation and maladaptive coping as well as in the exercises where attendees had to relate types of crimes to different possible environments or scenarios in which they can possibly occur.

After the webinar part of our event was over, Vital Language Solutions LLC conducted a raffle for our attendees. The prize that we raffled off was somehow related to the topic of our webinar. It was a book called Ethics for Police Translators and Interpreters by Sedat Mulayim and Miranda Lai, which focused on major theoretical foundations and definitions of professional practice and applied professional ethics among linguists. The winner of our raffle was Satomi Lore, a Japanese<>English interpreter from NYC, as her raffle ball number was 18. Despite the fact that it was already dark when we finished our event, it was a great evening filled with interesting concepts and engaging discussions!
